Ind. Gov. Daniels mum on presidential plans

Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels said on Wednesday that it was a "happy surprise" the window to enter into the Republican presidential field has not closed but he did not elaborate on his intentions during a speech at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington.
Daniels had said his decision to put off mulling a 2012 bid until after the Indiana Legislature adjourned April 29 would preclude him from running.
"I thought it might become too late but for whatever reason it appears not to be and I think it is a happy surprise," he said.
Daniels, who spoke at the think tank on educational issues in Indiana, said "unless you are a political professional or running a bed and breakfast in New Hampshire" the fact that the primary process is taking longer is good for the political process.
He is expected to announce his intentions within the next few weeks.
In a Quinnipiac University poll released today, 5% of Republicans and Republican-leaners said they would vote for Daniels if the Republican primary were today.
